Options... Button
You can customize your game by changing the look and feel of the course as well as what sounds, if any, you'll hear during your game. Click and hold on Options... to see a submenu of the items you can customize.
Sound
When the sound is on, you'll hear things like the crack of the club hitting the ball and little birds chirping overhead. If you're up late and playing golf while others are sleeping nearby, you might want to turn the sound off completely and play in silence.
To toggle Sound on and off, click and hold on the Options... button, slide your cursor to Sound and then release the mouse button.
Weather Options
In real golf, you have to live with whatever weather conditions nature dishes out. But this is SimGolf, where you're in charge.
You can make large or small adjustments to temperature, humidity and wind strength and direction. If you don't make any changes to the weather, your game will be set for normal conditions -- warm and dry with light wind.
To call up the Weather Options dialog box, click and hold on the Options... button, slide your cursor to Weather Options and then release the mouse button.
Wind Strength
Click and drag the slider control to set the wind strength. The numbers indicate the miles per hour of wind strength for any point on the gauge.
Weather Pattern
The Weather Pattern box shows two continuums: Hot/Cold and Wet/Dry. Click on the respective slider control to set the temperature and humidity you want.
Prevailing Winds
This is where you set the direction from where the wind most often blows. Click anywhere on the round, compass-like device to set the wind direction. Don't confuse this with a weather vane. The Prevailing Winds gauge shows where the wind is coming from, not which direction it's blowing to.
Terrain Options
The height of the grass on a golf course makes a tremendous difference in your game. So does the presence of wet sand in the bunkers. (Ugh!) SimGolf allows you to vary the terrain conditions. Changing the terrain is accomplished much like changing the weather. First, click and hold on Options... , then click on Terrain to bring up the Terrain Dialog Box.
Green
Speed on a green is determined, in part, by the height of the grass. Short grass makes for a fast green and longer grass slows down the ball. You can choose to play on a very fast green or a very slow green, or any speed in between. Adjust the green speed by dragging the pointer to any spot on the gauge.
Fairway
Fairways are generally considered hard or soft, depending on length and/or type of grass, the cut of the grass and moisture content of the ground. To select the conditions of the fairways, click and drag the pointer to any spot on the gauge.
Sand
It is easier to play out of dry sand than wet sand. But just as wet sand is often a reality in real golf, it can also occur in SimGolf. Click and drag the pointer to any position on the gauge to set the sand moisture level.
Detail Level
The detail level determines how much of the course is portrayed in the main view of the game. Minimum detail will show only the objects within a close range. (Keep in mind that faster computers handle greater detail faster.) Click and drag the pointer to any position on the gauge to set the detail level.
Open All Views
This feature allows you to see all the views of SimGolf at once: Ball, Pin, Top, Profile and Landing. Keep them all open, or click the Close box ("X") of the views you don't want to see.
